The New England Revolution’s win over the Miami Dolphins was their ninth straight win and the team’s first in league play since January 2.
New England’s first goal of the match came from Chris Tierney’s corner kick.
Tierney made his second career start and completed 21 of 34 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns.
He was named the game’s MVP after finishing with nine tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
The Patriots had the ball for most of the second half and had a pair of first-half scoring chances.
Tierneys second of the day came when he caught a pass from KeiVarae Russell, who was wide open in the middle of the field for the second time in the game.
Russell took the ball from Russell and made a nifty pass to Donta Hightower, who then beat a diving Jelani Jenkins for a one-yard touchdown.
Tierny’s third of the night came on a play that had been called back after the Patriots had possession.
It came when Russell took a handoff and spun out to Tierney who beat a charging Sean King for a 5-yard TD.
After the game, Tierney said, “I was just thinking about the past, the past year.
It’s a big win, big moment.
This is just a great feeling for the team.
That’s all that matters to me.”
Tyson Alger (21) and Dontae Hightowers (21), both on the field in the second quarter.
Tiery Tierney (21).
After the Patriots took the lead in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins took the field and did a little bit of a march.
Hight, Tierny and Alger all caught passes, but none of the Patriots returned them for a touchdown.
Alger was the one who took the next one, running up the middle to run for a 6-yard score with 3:28 to go in the third quarter.
Tierney was one of the few players to score on the Dolphins, but his first pass was a poor throw from Hight to Tierny.
Tierry’s fourth TD of the season came on another bad throw, this time to Alger, who ran up the sideline and took a pass and ran to the end zone.
The Revolution had some good moments early in the match.
First, they took the first-ever lead of the game in the 18th minute, when Tierney put a cross-field pass on the line to Russell for a 7-yard gain.
Second, they had a third-and-4 in the 19th minute and the first possession of the half, when the Patriots started their drive with a 6th-and.
Tiernay gain, and a chance for Tierney to take a deep shot.
Third, they were able to score again on a 10-yard pass from Tierney, to Hight.
The second-half was more of the same, with Tierney scoring his third touchdown of the year, this one a 23-yarder with 2:21 to go.
Tiery Tiernaya’s touchdown was his first since the 2015 season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
