Is the Toyota Prius Hybrid Ready for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics?

The Toyota Priuse hybrid is ready to hit the streets of Tokyo, Japan, in 2020, with a new generation of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) ready to enter service.

Toyota’s hybrid concept car, the Toyota XJ-6, debuted at the Tokyo Auto Show in March 2020 and has been widely reported as the world’s first BEV with a fully electric drivetrain.

But the Toyota announcement has also given some credence to some other electric vehicles.

A Chinese automaker, Dongfeng Automotive, also plans to enter production of its BEV, the Hyundai i-MiEV, at a plant in the southern city of Shenzhen in 2019.

In addition to China, a number of U.S. and European automakers, including General Motors, have been investing in electric cars, including the Chevrolet Bolt EV.

However, the U.K.-based Volt brand has yet to enter the market.
